Gone Fishin'

gone fishin'

Because really...what's more relaxing than a kindergarten field trip involving a lake, canoes, fish, and 100 six year olds?

And mud...did I mention the mud?

Team-Up Thursday: Week Eighteen (OUT OF FOCUS)

out of focus dip

I had a lot of fun trying to come up with ideas for OUT OF FOCUS this week. I finally figured that I'm literally out of focus without my glasses, so my shot needed to incorporate that idea. What developed was a slightly eerie photograph. And what a contrast to Melody this week. Her shot is so soft and lovely where mine is more...well...creepy, for lack of a better description.

What do you have to show us this week?

P.S. Next week, Melody and I are doing SIGNS.

The Other One

Just in case anyone was wondering what happened to my other child, since he never seems to appear on the blog.

He's busy...growing his legs even longer.

Team-Up Thursday: Week Seventeen (HOT/COLD)

hot/cold diptych

For some reason -- and I think Melody would agree -- this theme turned out to be a tough one. However, I do like the final product. The tongue on the cold popsicle and the wrinkly toes in the hot bath make a great contrast. I especially like that we both ended up with a top-to-toes kind of diptych.

Since I scrambled a bit for this week, I have been reflecting on what I've been learning since beginning this project. One thing that sticks out is the fact that I've become better at envisioning what I want for a particular image, but not upset if something else develops as an end result. Chewing over the themes has really gotten my creative juices flowing, particularly when I'm trying to create something new (to me) and expand my artistic vision.

I'd love to know: what are you learning in this weekly endeavor?

Share your dips with us here and in the flickr pool.

Edited to add: Melody and I are doing OUT OF FOCUS next week...see you then!

BSM: Catcher

the catcher

My favorite part of this shot? His cute hand holding the ball behind his back. And I don't even LIKE baseball:).

Team-Up Thursday: Week Sixteen (MOM)

MOM dip

When I opened Melody's photo this week, I had only one response: Wow. Really. One of my favorite Melody photos ever, and that's saying something because she's got fabulous photos in her archives. Everything about this photo is perfect. I'm hoping she hasn't shown her husband so she can blow it up huge and give it to him for Father's Day.

Interestingly, mine features a trio of women as well: my mom, my gramma, and my great-grandmother. I never met my great-grandmother, so I love that we have photos of her. I do like that this diptych portrays trios of women past and present, memories made and preserved and memories in the making.

I hope that this inspires you to make sure that YOU are in photographs with your children and loved ones. It doesn't matter that you don't think your hair is perfect or you'd like to lose a few pounds. Your family knows what you look like, and they want to have pictures of you WITH them. Future generations will be especially grateful.

Can't wait to see what you have to show us this week here and in our flickr pool.

P.S. Our theme for next week is HOT & COLD.

BSM: Mother's Day

For my Mother's Day outing this year, we spent the day at the coast, and what a gorgeous day it was. We decided to hike down to Crescent Beach, a 1.25 mile hike in Ecola State Park. So worth it.

First there was this:

Then we saw this:

And finally this:

Hope your day was equally glorious.

Team-Up Thursday: Week Fifteen

So I finally got around to looking at all the dips from last week -- and the many banana shots -- in the flickr pool. What fun! After a vacation, even a brief weekend getaway, it's nice to have something fun to do, and checking out all your great team-ups fit the bill.

This week, FRIENDS was our theme. I thought I would come back from my girls' weekend with tons of artistic and exciting shots from which to choose. Yeah, not so much. We had a blast, and maybe because of that fact, I really didn't take many shots. When we went out and about, it was two other gals with small p & s cameras that did most of the photo taking. Especially when we went dancing until all hours.

This shot was one of our beach walks where I did take my camera. I couldn't resist that lovely light late in the day. In fact, both Melody and I seem to have chosen golden light moments for our shots this week. Melody's shot, with the three kids all in mid-action in that wonderful field of flowers -- just delicious!

For me, I'm still savoring the girl time:).

Remember to post to our fabulous flickr pool. I get inspired every time I look at the creations in our group.

Also, Melody and I are going to try to post our new theme for the upcoming week on Thursdays. Hopefully we can stay on the ball. To that end, we're going to tackle MOM this week...so join us or pick your own. Either way, we'll see you back here next week!
