Death and the New Year?

Last night at bathtime, Harrison was contemplating the year 3000.  I laughed and told him none of us would be around to see that!  Immediately, a panicked sob emerged from the bathtub, as Owen burst into tears: "I don't want to die!"

Have you tried explaining a thousand years to a four year old?

Would you believe Ali did the exact same (well, sort of) thing this wkend. We were packing up pictures for our move and came across one of my grandpa-- my mom explained to Ali that this was "grandpa's" (her's) daddy. But of course in part with that was the fact that he had died. Honest to goodness Ali was sad for a good day plus, at this thought, and every once and again with tears in her eyes would ask, "Why did grandpa's daddy have to die?" And yes, the concept of aging doesn't go well to the three year old set either.

No, but I have tried explaining 500 years to a 9 year old autistic boy who thought that Henry the 8th was going to come through the classroom door and chop his head off!!!!
